Description: Late 19th century.
This is a radiant, shimmering work. The ivory field has a prayer rug format, but in effect it is the familiar arcade, giving a view onto a garden, and thus on paradise. Its primary use would have been as a wall decoration, not for prayer. The engaged columns and the supported niche have an indigo ground; with many floral motifs. The vase disgorges a profusion of blossoms and plants, which create a cascade of blossoms towards the tip of the arch. The rug has a lovely mauve border with rosettes nad long saz leaves.
