Description: The signature of the maker is, as usual in the wide kilim end, with a 'candy stripe' at both ends.  It is signed: baft-i Iran Isfahan Strafian ('woven in Iran, Isfahan, Sirafian').  The characteristic cartouche is flanked by national flag colours.

There are hints of traditional Qur'anic illumination in the medallion, along with other derivations from the arts of the book.  Also typical of Isfahan are the arabesques of the Safavid city; the floral designs of the cornerpieces echo the medallion design. The ivory ground of main field changes to indigo in the guard bands and the deep madder of the main border has arabesque themes and vegetal motifs. The corner palmettes echo the themes in matching guard bands.
