Type: Isfahan Wool, by Sirafian
Size: 163 cm x 104 cm
Knots: 11 x 11 cm2, approx. total 2,051,000
Description: The rug is signed in the kilim end: baft-i Iran Isfahan Sirafian ('woven in Iran, Isfahan, Sirafian'). Its ivory main ground has an overall design of floral
motifs, mainly in madder and indigo, with the
long scrolling arabesques which adorn many of the domes of this exquisite city. The border has the familiar range of decorative motifs, which are here tending to be rather angular. Sirafian is again developing new ranges of expression within a familiar repertoire.
