Type: Isfahan Part Silk.
Size: 215 cm x 145 cm
Knots: 10 x 9 cm2, approx. total 2,806,000
Description: Early 20th century. This is an example of an Isfahan group which is well represented in the Collection.
The magnificent star-burst medallion and the cornerpieces, mainly in madder offset by the pale, ivory field, are enclosed by the strong border. As usual there is a mass of finely drawn flowers and vegetal devices filling the design. There is a red and blue stitched single line in the kilim end. As well as taking its inspiration from the great public buildings of the city, such work also owes much to the stucco ceilings which adorned many of the great houses of the Qajar period.
