Description: This rug is probably over 60 years old.  It has a silk element on the warp. The design is very typical of the finest work of the city of Isfahan this century.  The central medallion has architectural antecedents, possibly even the city's great Shaikh Lutfallah mosque ceiling.  Although it resembles a prayer rug in format this is not its primary usage.  It is an interesting combination of traditional elements; the mihrab arch on a madder ground, two cranes, one in each corner, a rich border with palmettes and matching guard bands.
