Description: Late 19th/early 20th century. The rug has a superb blue main ground, with medallion and cornerpieces, mainly in madder with vegetal and floral details in indigo
and ivory. The matching guardbands of stylised leaves and blossoms enfold an unusual border.
This has 'gold' lozenges and diamonds of small stylised blossoms which hark back to Safavid examples of the 17th century which are often believed to have been created in the Kashan area.
