Description: Late 19th century. The high quality of the silk of this work and the subtlety of its everchanging colouring makes this an exciting and interesting rug.
It has a delicate mauve main field, with restrained, small blossoms overall. The central lozenge medallion with its indigo ground is full of blossoms. The pale blue main border with palmettes and floral motifs is flanked by matching guard bands. The rug also has the variation in colour known as abrash.
This is a fine example of the quality of work and exquisite technique in silk that the area was producing during this period. Rugs of this standard form a small and exclusive group.
