Description: Late 19th/early 20th century. This carefully delineated rug is related in design to the last example.
It is in the form of a section of blind arcading, whose arch is formed of complex spandrels mainly in madder and indigo with floral devices. The ground of the main field is ivory with the mass of blossoms, flowers, leaves and palmettes, generated by a familiar tall stylised tree, whose narrow trunk forms the vertical axis of the rug. The main colours include also the use of various shades of rose pink, a colour much favoured during the Qajar period. The border with its deep madder ground is typical Kashan, with rosettes and palmettes, tendrils and leaves, in a continuous pattern.
